2. Itinerary Overview:
Day 1: Western Xia Culture & Film Pilgrimage
Helan Mountain Rock Paintings
Why go: Known as "history books on stone," these paintings record the lives and beliefs of ancient people 3,000 to 10,000 years ago, making them a unique art gallery in the world.
What to see: After entering the scenic area, you can first visit the Yinchuan World Rock Painting Museum to learn about the stories behind the rock paintings. Then, take a sightseeing bus to the core area to see firsthand the cattle, sheep, hunting scenes, and mysterious human faces carved into the stones. If you're lucky, you might even see argali sheep in the mountains. The core tour takes approximately 2 hours.
Zhenbeibao Western Film Studio
Why go: This is one of China's most successful film and television shooting bases, enjoying the reputation of "Chinese films going global from here." Classic films such as *A Chinese Odyssey* and *New Dragon Gate Inn* were born here.
How to play: The film studio is divided into the Ming City, Qing City, and Old Yinchuan Street. You can stroll through movie scenes, rent a costume, and fulfill a cinematic dream beneath the city tower where Supreme Treasure and Fairy Zixia bid farewell. The afternoon light is perfect for photos.
Day 2: Prehistoric Archaeology & Time Travel Journey
This day, head east for an in-depth experience of the unique ruins and landforms of Shuidonggou.
Shuidonggou Tourist Area
Why go: This is the "birthplace of prehistoric archaeology in China," recording the lives of ancient humans 40,000 years ago. It is also the site of a complete military defense system from the Ming Dynasty, and its unique Yardang landforms add to its charm
Core Experience: The essence of Shuidonggou lies in its journey through time itself. We highly recommend purchasing the scenic area transportation package, which allows you to experience various modes of transportation, including boats, donkey carts, and camel carts, traveling from the prehistoric ruins to the Ming Dynasty hidden military caves. This unique experience is not to be missed.
Continue exploring the peculiar hidden military caves and feel the military wisdom of the ancients. After the tour, you can proceed to the airport (only 11 kilometers from Shuidonggou, about a 15-minute drive) or return to the city, depending on your return travel plans.
