Qinghai Tibetan Culture Museum – An Encyclopedia of Tibetan Culture
Located at No. 36, Jing'er Road, Biotechnology Industrial Park, Chengbei District, Xining City, the Qinghai Tibetan Culture Museum is the world's only comprehensive museum dedicated to the collection, preservation, display, and research of Tibetan culture, and is hailed as an "encyclopedia of Tibetan culture."
① Museum Treasure: 618-meter-long Thangka "Grand View of Chinese Tibetan Art Painting" (4th Floor):
This giant Thangka, listed in the Guinness World Records, was conceived by the renowned Thangka master Zongzhe Lajie and created by 400 painters over four years. The Thangka is 618 meters long and covers an area of over 1500 square meters. Its content encompasses all aspects of Tibetan culture, including their understanding of the universe, history, religion, medicine, and cultural life, making it a true "encyclopedia of Tibetan culture." Visitors describe it as "breathtakingly stunning" and "feeling their souls cleansed after seeing it."
② Silk Road and Tibetan Plateau Civilization Hall (3rd Floor):
Displays thousands of precious cultural relics, including silk, gold and silver artifacts, and coffin paintings, systematically presenting the origin and inheritance of Tibetan Plateau civilization. A 1:1 replica of the Potala Palace, including its mountain shape, is truly breathtaking.
③ Ethnic Costume Exhibition Hall (2nd Floor):
Displays costumes from various religions and ethnic groups, especially the costumes of noblewomen from Ali Pulan, adorned with strings of old amber and dzi beads. The turquoise seems to serve a subtle purpose. Visitors describe it as "a striking combination of color and weight, exquisitely beautiful."
④ Tibetan Medicine Culture Hall (North Hall):
Displays over 6,000 ancient Tibetan medical books and documents, 80 Tibetan medical thangkas (manthang), and over 200 ancient Tibetan medical instruments, systematically showcasing the long history and profound connotations of Tibetan medicine. Plant and mineral specimens are exhibited on the basement floor.
Kumbum Monastery – A Sacred Site of the Gelug School of Tibetan Buddhism
Located at No. 56 Jinta Road, Huangzhong District, Xining City, about 25 kilometers from the city center, Kumbum Monastery is one of the six major monasteries of the Gelug school (Yellow Hat sect) of Tibetan Buddhism and the birthplace of Tsongkhapa, the founder of the Gelug school. It boasts a history of over 400 years.
Unlike traditional inland temples in China, Kumbum Monastery is not laid out in a symmetrical, longitudinal pattern. Instead, it is an ancient architectural complex composed of numerous halls, scripture halls, stupas, and colleges, irregularly distributed on a small hill.
Three Must-See Wonders of Kumbum Monastery:
1. Butter Sculptures: Sculpted from butter mixed with various pigments into Buddha statues, figures, flowers, birds, animals, pavilions, and towers.
2. Murals: Vibrant murals dating back over a century, distributed in the main halls, corridors, and front porches.
3. Appliqué Embroidery: Various colored silks cut into desired shapes, stuffed with wool or cotton, and then embroidered onto fabric.

Qinghai Lake Erlangjian Scenic Area – The Essence of the Plateau Sapphire
Erlangjian, named for its resemblance to a long sword piercing the lake, is a narrow land dike about 100 paces wide and 25 kilometers long, extending into the heart of the lake to form a unique peninsula. Ming Dynasty records describe it as "a dike on the south bank, stretching for tens of miles to the north, heading straight into the lake's belly," and in Tibetan it is called "Sea Tiger."It is a 5A-level tourist attraction in China.
① Tibetan Cultural Area: Painted prayer flags, white stupas, and the opportunity to experience Tibetan women braiding colorful braids.
② Gull Watching Platform: Use breadcrumbs to summon Siberian red-billed gulls; they will land on your palm.
