Itinerary
Day 1 - Baghdad
Arrive at Baghdad International Airport. Your local guide will meet you at the airport and take you to the hotel.
Day 2 - Baghdad - Samarra - Agargouf - Baghdad
Journey to the ancient city of Samarra, passing through the villages that have been completely destroyed in the struggle against IS. Visit the Samarra Minaret, also known as the Great Mosque of Samarra, and make an effort to climb to the top. Before returning to Baghdad, you will have the chance to see the renowned Birka Palace and the lovely Ziggurat of Agar Qouf.
Day 3 - Baghdad
Spend the day discovering Baghdad! View significant relics of the Persian, Abbasid, and Mesopotamian civilizations in the magnificent National Museum of Iraq. Continue to the Al-Mustansariya School, which was once the main center for Islamic learning and is now recognized as one of Baghdad's most stunning examples of modern architecture. Then, stroll along Al-Mutanabi Street, Baghdad's historical center for bookselling, which is filled with bookstores and outdoor book kiosks, as well as the notable Copper Market. Admire the impressive Clock Tower and the Abbasid Palace while strolling along the Tigris River. You may also enjoy the beautiful Save the Iraqi Culture Monument, visit the massive Liberation Square, the city's central square, which honors the founding of the Republic of Iraq, and view the striking Al-Shaheed Monument (Martyr's Monument), an amazing structure honoring the Iraqi soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the Iran-Iraq War.
Day 4 - Baghdad - Ctesiphon - Babylon - Karbala
Visit the ancient city of Babylon, which was once the biggest and most powerful city in the world. Along the journey, stop at the Ruins of Ctesiphon, one of the most important ancient sites in the Middle East. With the help of your knowledgeable guide, explore the historical sites of the Babylonian empire, such as the ruins of the Tower of Babel and the Hanging Gardens. Afterwards, visit the impressive Saddam Hussein Palace, which is situated on a hilltop with a great view of Babylon. Continue on to the holy city of Karbala to witness its bustling markets, the majestic Al-Abbas Mosque, and the historic Imam Hussein Shrine.
Day 5 - Karbala - Ukhaider - Kifl - Kufa - Najaf
Visit At Tar Caves and Al Ukhaidir Fort first thing in the morning. After that, continue onto Al Khifal and its historic souk before heading to Kufa and Najaf. You also will get the opportunity to visit some of the holiest sites in Shia Islam, including as Imam Ali's home in Kufa and his shrine in Najaf.
Day 6 - Najah - Uruk - Ur - Nasiriyah
Start the day with a drive from Najaf to Nasiriyah. You will spend the day exploring the Ancient Ruins of Uruk and Ur, and get an insight into the Sumerian civilization. Then, head to Nasiriyah for the night.
Day 7 - Nasiriyah - Marches - Basra
Discover what it's like to live in the Iraqi marshes! Take a small boat around the marshes to see water buffalo and savor a delicious meal of Masgouf (Iraqi carp, the country's national dish). Continue on to Qurna and get back on the river to witness where the Tigris and Euphrates meet to form the Shatt al Arab waterway. Then, make your way to Basra, where you will spend the night.
Day 8 - Basra
Spend the day in and around Basra, visiting the city's historic merchant homes and taking a boat excursion to one of Saddam Hussein's former palaces. Then, transfer to Basrah International Airport for your journey back home.

When visiting the holy cities of Karbala and Najaf, there are strict rules of faith. Men need a pair of trousers and t-shirt to wear and women will need long sleeves and a scarf. Please also be advised that alcohol is prohibited in these cities.
A moderate amount of walking is involved; Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
