Itinerary
Day 1 - Beronono
Meet and greet your driver at the designated pick up location before following the Isalo Massif trail, traveling through the rugged and challenging route. Cross the Mangoky River by motorized ferry to reach the village of Beronono, where you will come together with your local guide and porter team. Overnight in a bivouac at the edge of the Makay River.
Day 2 - Beronono - Morafeno
Start a four day trek into the unexplored Massifs of Makay, a true sanctuary for Madagascar’s majestic flora and fauna. Visit the Mahatiny Cave to see its notable historic drawings and learn more about the past of Madagascar's Sakalava Ethnic Group. Continue with an ascent to the plateaus to take in the impressive scenic Makay in its entirety. Set up your camp along the Makay River’s banks.
Day 3 - Morafeno - Nosilahy
Continue your journey through Makay after breakfast. Discover the narrow canyon of Ambanitelo as you ascend to the plateaus’s summit to take in the breathtaking panoramas of the Makay Massif and the Nosilahy Lakes. Dinner and overnight at the Nosilahy Campsite.
Day 4 - Nosilahy - Sariaka
Prepare for a long day of exploration as you trek through a canyon by trampling through water before enjoying a picnic lunch at the edge of the sacred lake to observe crocodiles and their tracks in the water from a distance. Then, exit from Makay Park to reach the Beronono Campsite, where you will stay for the night.
Day 5 - Sariaka - Beronono
Visit Lake Sariaka before you ascend to the summit of the mountain to take in the breathtaking views of Lake Nosilahy and Lake Sariaka. Then, descend to the Ambinanitelo Canyon to get to the village of Beronono. Celebrate the completion of the Makay trekking excursion with the entire team, including the porters, guides, and cooks, to wrap the day off.
Day 6 - Beronono - Ranohira
Depart from Beronono and make your way back to Ranohira. Enjoy a picnic lunch and the beautiful panoramas along the way. Upon arrival in Ranohira, take a convenient transport to Airport or Station for your onward destination.
