Discover Masoala's majestic natural and wildlife treasures as you journey from Maroantsetra to Cap-Est in 7 days! Madagascar has a lot to offer, especially its lush rainforests brimming with unique flora and fauna. This hiking excursion is specifically tailored for anyone looking for a thrilling and exciting way to experience the untamed rainforest of Masoala Peninsula.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Maroantsetra - Fizono

Embark on a canoe trip to Andranofotsy. Then, you can proceed on foot through the Farankaraina Private Tropical Park. You will travel through several vanilla, pepper, coffee, and clove plantations on route to the community of Fizono, where you will spend the night. You will also stop at the Mahalevona Community for a picnic lunch.

Day 2 - Fizono - Ampofako

After a leisurely breakfast, pack your bags and start your hike via several streams and high mountains. Experience Masoala National Park's captivating scenery while looking for the elusive Red Ruffed Lemur in the Ambatolaidama forest. Continue your hike on until you get at Ampokafo, where you'll set up tent for the evening.

Day 3 - Ampofako - Tsararapaka

Begin the mountain's most challenging stages of your trek after breakfast. Ampokafo and Manakambahiny, two villages with breathtaking panoramas of the surrounding countryside, are visible from the peak. Continue on into the Masoala National Park while strolling through the forest, taking in the sights and sounds of various birds and Red-Ruffed Lemurs. Camp at Tsararapaka in the Masoala National Park at night for the chance to see uncommon nocturnal species just feet from the tents.

Day 4 - Tsararapaka - Marivorano

Start your journey to Marivorano after breakfast. Because there are no mountains, the hike is easier, yet it takes three hours to get to the Befilipo fields because of the trees. You can spot a variety of wildlife back in Masoala National Park's harsh jungle, including the Red-Ruffed Lemur, Red-Breasted Couas, Blue Couas, and Madagascar Wood Rail. Get the chance to follow the riverside through the treacherous rocks from the camping places in Befilipo or even cross the river to get to Betsirebika for a picnic. Then, pitch your tent next to the small town of Marivorano at night.

Day 5 -  Marivorano - Antanandavahely

Follow the main streams until you reach the main river, which gets stronger until Antanandavahely, where you can view chameleons, birds, and several muddy picnic areas. People used to live in a variety of camping grounds throughout Ambalavy, but the national park system compelled them to congregate in only a few places, where they eventually established communities, giving the impression that the forest had already been evacuated. Then, paddle a canoe to the small village of Antanandavahely and pitch your tent up for the night.

Day 6 - Antanandavahely - Ambohitralanana

Board a canoe boat and paddle down the river to the village of Ambohitralanana. Along the way, have a look at the crocodiles sunbathing at the Onive River. Additionally, you can observe the way of life of the locals as they go traditional fishing, washing, and other village activities in the river.

Day 7 - Ambohitralanana - Antalaha

Take a Taxi-Moto or Taxi-Brousse and travel to Antalaha. Pass by vanilla plantation and coconut plantation along the way. Then, get on a ferry and go through a beautiful section of the Indian Ocean.
