Itinerary
Day 1 - Antananarivo - Maroantsetra - Masoala
Arrive in Antananarivo. Meet and greet your guide at the designated location, taking you to the airport for a flight to Maroantsetra, a small seaside village situated in a picturesque riverine environment at the foot of Antongil Bay. From Maroantsetra, transfer to Nosy Mangabe just in for a beachside picnic before heading across Antongil Bay to the magnificent Masoala Forest Lodge. With the lush rainforest serving as a backdrop, there is certainly no lack of scenery along the way. Keep a watch out for dolphins and, depending on the season, even whales! As soon as you get to the resort, check into your bungalow and go outside to enjoy a cozy beach fire. If you'd like a little more adventure, you can set out with a guide for a stroll in the dusk to see some of the forest's nocturnal animals. If you are lucky, you may spot some of Madagascar’s majestic treasures, such as sleeping birds, mouse lemurs, white-fronted brown lemurs, woolly lemurs, sportive lemurs, leaf-tailed geckos, chameleons, and Aye-aye.
Day 2 - Masoala National Park
Spend the day filled with wonderful adventures and stunning scenery! Set off to kayak the Mangroves River after enjoying a picturesque breakfast from the sea deck. Paddle your way through a variety of vegetation, including rocks, partially submerged trees, and other plants as you navigate the river. Head back to camp for a well-earned meal and some rest before your upcoming coast-exploring adventure! In the afternoon, take some time to relax by lying on a hammock under our beachfront palm trees, snorkeling on the surrounding, incredibly diversified coral reefs, paddling out at dusk to a gorgeous vista in the hopes of spotting some turtles, and more.
Day 3 - Masoala National Park
Begin the day with a delightful breakfast and aromatic coffee. As one of Madagascar's top destinations for hiking and trekking, the Masoala Peninsula also provides fantastic prospects for snorkeling and sea kayaking. Today, you will be snorkeling, swimming, relaxing on the beach, touring, visiting a village, crossing rivers, and doing some light trekking. Saholaina is a stunning beach with coral-rich waters ideal for swimming or snorkeling. Reach it via boat. From here, we will travel downstream the Antalaviana River, which originates in the heavily forested hills above and falls down. At the base of the falls, you can swim in the glistening water and sunbathe on a rock. Once your picnic lunch on the beach is over, you will walk back to the lodge. Along the way, cross rivers, see the village of Marofototra, and tour the nearby plantations where the people cultivate vanilla, cloves, pineapple, cinnamon, and pepper. A colonial railway's ruins will also be visible, and discover a lot about the area's history. Afterwards, take in the beautiful scenery while you enjoy a private table on the sea deck for dinner.
Day 4 - Masoala National Park - Antananarivo
Enjoy breakfast at the lodge before boarding on a boat to take you back to Maroantsetra, and then transfer to the airport, where your flight is waiting for you. Make sure to take in the breathtaking views of the Masoala Peninsula on your way back to Antananarivo for your onward destination.
