Amidst the primitive, remote countryside of the Tierradentro region lies an opportunity for visitors to take a glimpse into Colombia’s ancient past. This relatively unvisited area also known as “Tierra a dentro” the land on the inside has always been inhabited by Colombia’s largest indigenous group the Nasa (Paez). This Archaeological Park is famous for its countless painted underground burial chambers earning it a place on the UNESCO World Heritage list.


Itinerary:

Day 1: Touring The Pyramids 

Depart from Tierradentro in search of the village of Inza. You will begin your short 15 min walk to the pyramids just a few kilometers before arriving to Inza. Soak up the unreal view of the encompassing valley while also exploring the tunnels dug under the pyramid-shaped mountain. Afterward, you will return to Tierradentro for the night.

Day 2: Exploring the Archaeological Park

Begin your day with breakfast and along with your guide visit the village of San Andres de Pisimbala for a stunning hike to the summit of Aguacate Hill. From here follow along a ridge observing many subterranean tombs. Reward yourself here with a magical view of the whole surrounding region. Afterward, begin your descent down towards Tierradentro Archaeological Park to visit the Archaeological Museum as well as Ethnographic Museum. Continuing on with a climb up the Alto de Segovia and Alto del Duende to witness many subterranean tombs. Venture along to the site of Tablon, filled with statues of the human form before returning to your hotel to end the day.
You will have the luxury of a vehicle and driver at your disposal all day long.

Day 3: More Exploring of Tierradentro

This morning, after breakfast, you will have the vehicle available to you for the day should you want to explore.
