Hato La Aurora Nature Reserve

Welcome to what some refer to as the “Colombian Safari” or the “jaguar corridor” easily one of Colombia’s largest private natural reserves encompassing over 17,000 hectares of wild, raw beauty. Situated inside this traditional Hato is a unique, rustic eco-hotel called Juan Solito Ecolodge which caters to all visitors of the reserve. During your stay here you will be able to take in a more earthly experience as you explore the region's culture and uncover its unbelievable essence!

Itinerary:

Day 1: Depart Yopal to Hato La Aurora Reserve

Your departure from Yopal to the La Aurora Nature Reserve will be in a provided 4x4 as we cross over into the Llano region. Here you will have time to check into your room at the eco-lodge and enjoy a delectable lunch before some free time of exploring the surrounding grounds. As the evening approaches a sunset dinner will be provided overlooking the plains of the reserve before settling in for the night.

Day 2: Safari Excursion

Your day begins with a 1.5hr journey from the hotel to the Hato La Aurora in one of our safari Jeeps. Keep your eyes peeled for all the countless wildlife that inhabits this area such as birds, monkeys, alligators, wild horses, cattle, and many other surprises. You will return back to the hotel in the late afternoon where you may (time permitted) have the chance to see some more nocturnal animals and a beautiful light show of stars in the sky. Dinner will be served in the hotel and if you’ve got a little energy left you will have a chance to listen to the staff explain more about the regional culture with traditional folk songs, poems, and many instruments.

Day 3: Nature Reserve Walk

Today is a choose your own adventure:

1. A boat trip down the nearby river where you can fish or just relax while you soak up the surrounding display of flora and fauna the reserve has to offer. 


2. The land option could have you horseback riding through the plains also allowing you to uncover many more species of wildlife living throughout.  

You will return back to the lodge for dinner and your overnight stay.

Day 4: Anaconda Research

Begin your day with a mysterious legend as we prepare our investigation of the illustrious anaconda. This remarkable and often times feared reptile generally resides near wetlands and rivers. Here you will have the chance to better understand its physiology, its habits, and the uniqueness that separates it from the rest. Normally these predators are not a threat to humans, but rather other snakes, small felines, and caimans. After you will return to the lodge for dinner and your final night.

DAY 5: Departure from Reserve - Yopal 

Today is up to you whether you want to leave immediately after breakfast or continue your time at the reserve exploring more of the area, have lunch and make a later departure. The transfer back to Yopal will be provided by a 4x4 Jeep.
