Let’s step back to a more prehistoric time where you might question exactly what planet you are on? The Mavecure hills (more like behemoth) mountains are a collection of 3 monoliths nestled in the South East of Colombia on the Inirida river which makes them only accessible by river. An adventure here is not for the faintest of heart as this isolated area is devoid of tourism substructure. You will be hiking various terrains carrying your own equipment, so reducing your weight his heavily suggested. Showers and toilets at the campsites are lacking which means you’ll have to get used to bathing in the river (without soap) and using mobile toilets.

Tourism with Rural Indigenous Communities: Accommodation will be amongst the Venado community in rustic cabanas where comfort isn’t necessarily top priority. It’s very simple and basic yet clean and sufficient. We will help facilitate all gatherings and visits with the local communities.

With these local tribes living in such inaccessible and undiscovered parts of Colombia, bringing some small gifts or useful trinkets goes a long way. Examples are: children’s books, clothing, sewing kits, writing material, fishing line, hooks, flashlights or anything with an alternate energy source.

Day 1: Inirida River - Mavecure Hills

Just before we stop for lunch with the Venado community we will begin our trek up the tepuy to view the Escudo Guavanes landscapes a series of ancient rocks in the centre of the jungle. After lunch we will make our way to the Almidon community where we have access to the Caiman river enjoying the Redonda, Casabe and Clara lagoons. Following our time here we will return to the community where we can begin our river ride keeping our eyes open for pink dolphins and countless endemic birds of the area. Finally we’ll head to the community of Ceiba where you can enjoy dinner and an overnight in your cabin.

During our river ride you’ll have the opportunity to bask in the enjoyment of a swim in the Atabapo waters before arriving at the Moru natural reserve for lunch. Following lunch you’ll have two choices:
