Not sure a discussion of San Agustin in South Colombia can be had without truly understanding its indigenous prominence in Latin America, as UNESCO declared this region and its inhabitants as an Intangible heritage of humanity. One of the last remaining vestiges of its time.


Itinerary: 


DAY 1: ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARK OF SAN AGUSTIN 

The journey will start from Pitalito airport with a private transfer to your hotel in San Augustin. Here you will meet your local guide who will accompany you to the archaeological park of San Agustin. Your time here will begin with a glimpse at the archaeological museum then continue on with a stroll throughout the park area where you can admire tropical flora, ethereal tombs, and colossal statues. Our final visit of the day will take us to the Mesitas A, B, C and the ceremonial spring of Lavapatas, the Alto de Lavapatas and eventually the Bosque de las Estatuas. 

 DAY 2: EXPLORE SAN AGUSTIN 

Our day begins with a hotel departure en route for San Jose de Isnos, where we will discover a 170-meter-high waterfall called Salto de Mortino. Our morning continues through the sugar cane fields as well as a viewing of the machinery that extracts the cane juice called a trapiche. The trek then brings us to the Alto de las Piedras Park where you can get a close-up look at the various statues and age-old monuments. We will then break for lunch back in San Agustin where we will have a chance to visit the Obando Museum and the “Estrecho” of the Magdalena River. We follow this up with a walk to the site of La Pelota to witness the last colored statues of San Agustin. We then finish up our day with visit to La Chaquira, an influential place with gorgeous views of the Magdalena river canyon below. 

 DAY 3: DEPARTURE

This morning, depart from your hotel in San Agustin to the Pitalito airport.
