Your tour in depth:

Day 1: Arrival in San Salvador

Today we’ll pick you up at the international airport of San Salvador. We can also pick you up at the border with Guatemala or Honduras if needed.

Day 2:  City tour of San Salvador

San Salvador is the capital city of El Salvador and is a vibrant and culturally rich destination and one of the nicest cities in all of Central America. During our tour we’ll mostly be circling in Zona Rosa, El Central and the Boulevard de los Heroes. During your tour today you’ll pass by many markets, shops, food stalls, colorful houses and be accompanied by the newest latin beats while moving around through the city center.

We will start our tour at the Metropolitan Cathedral, located in the heart of San Salvador. This impressive neoclassical building is home to beautiful stained glass windows and an ornate altar. We’ll head over to the National Theater, which is located just a few blocks away from the cathedral. This grand building is a cultural hub, hosting plays, concerts and other events. We’ll then take a stroll through the historic center of the city and visit some of the local markets. You’ll find a variety of stalls selling everything from fresh products to handmade crafts. After you’ve had your fill of shopping, we’ll make our way over to the San Salvador Metropolitan Park. This sprawling green space is a great place to relax and enjoy some fresh air and of course some people watching!

After tasting some tasty pupusas for lunch, we’ll head to El Boqueron National Park, a beautiful natural reserve located just outside of San Salvador. It is known for its stunning views of the surrounding landscape, as well as its diverse array of plant and animal life. The park is home to forest and animals such as armadillos, foxes, racoons and deer.

Day 3: Archeological tour of Tazumal and  Joya de Cerén

Today is all about history! We’ll visit the site of Tazumal, an ancient Mayan archaeological site located in Chalchuapa, El Salvador. It is considered one of the most important Maya sites in Central America, and was a major ceremonial and trading center during the Classic Period (250-900 AD). The site is known for its well-preserved Maya architecture, including pyramids, plazas, and a ballcourt. Tazumal was also an important center for the production of obsidian, a type of volcanic glass that was used to make tools and weapons. The name Tazumal means "place of the beheaded" in the Maya language, and the site is thought to have been used for human sacrifice. The site was first excavated in the 1940s, and continues to be studied by archaeologists today.

We’ll also go to Joya de Cerén,  a small village located in western El Salvador. It is famous for its well-preserved pre-Columbian village, which was buried by volcanic ash in 600 AD and discovered in the 1970s. The village provides a unique glimpse into the everyday life of the ancient Maya civilization, as the ash preserved a large number of artifacts and structures in their original condition. The site is now a UNESCO World Heritage site and a popular tourist destination in El Salvador.

Overnight in San Salvador.
