5 Day Jungle Expedition Colombia

Challenging yet rewarding - trek your way to the heart of Colombia and be one of the first few explorers to set foot in this part of its lush wilderness. Blaze a trail through the hot and humid Samana Watershed rainforest and down the mighty wild Samana River, and pass through five different ecosystems. Definitely a thrilling adventure!

Itinerary:

Day 1: Welcome to Medellin

Drive through the lush Medellin valley and into one of Latin America’s most exciting cities to explore the green spaces of the Manila district. Then, meet the expedition team for a short orientation. You will spend the night in a boutique hotel situated in Medellin’s hippest neighborhood, El Poblado. 

Day 2: Jungle Trek Begins

Embark on your jungle expedition to the heart of Colombia and head to the Samana Watershed, a tropical paradise that only the locals are acquainted with. Push through the humid, jungle-covered mountains as you make your way into the Rio Verde de los Henados to reach the Rio Verde Valley. You will spend the night in a remote finca, enjoy a delightful home-cooked meal alongside a local family, and hear fascinating stories about this hidden corner of Colombia’s jungle.

Day 3: Jungle Trek

Start the day with a cup of local coffee or hot chocolate before heading back to the jungle. Follow the trail and learn about a variety of plants used as medicine by the locals from your knowledgeable guide. Make sure to keep an eye out for a flight of butterflies and families of otters along the edge of the water. After lunch, cross the river through a suspension bridge, set up a camp, and learn how to sling the perfect hammock between the trees.

Day 4: Jungle Trek and River Raft

After breakfast, continue to trek through the lush rainforest. If you are lucky, you might see a tigrillo, tapir, or money along the way. Work your way through the Rio Verde where your raft will be waiting. Take a refreshing swim in the cool, pristine waters before rafting along the wild Samana River. You will spend the night at the riverbank where you will set up your hammock.

Day 5: River Raft

Take an early morning dip in the river before making your way through the jungle to the imposing canyon. Then, proceed to the Samana River, one of the last wild rivers in the world, and brace yourself as you tackle some class 4 rapids. Make a quick stop to explore the secluded beaches and swim in hidden waterfalls along the way. You will then leave your raft in a village before heading back to Medellin for a final evening with the expedition team.

Day 6: Final Day - Departure

Enjoy at your leisure to explore Medellin. Transfer will leave late afternoon to arrive at the airport at 17:00.
