BIRDWATCHING FROM RIOHACHA TO CARTAGENA
The area of the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta, the highest coastal mountains in the world, is teeming with extraordinary biodiversity and many endemic bird species to be found in tropical rainforest, cloud forest, and paramos. This experience will allow you to observe unique birds in a breathtaking setting.
What to Expect:
Day 1: Riohacha to MincaUpon your arrival in Riohacha, you will drop off your luggage at your hotel before going out to try to see the species one can observe in the city.

FLAMINGOS SANCTUARY – TAYRONA PARK
Early this morning, you will visit the Flamingos Sanctuary, where you will be able to observe the different species of birds in the chaparral dry forests in which the bushes dominate the vegetation. Among other species, you can see the Harri’s Hawk, the Green-rumped Parrotlet, the slender-billed Tyrannulet, Vermilion Flycatcher or the Prothonotary Warbler, among many others. After this observation session, lunch in the nearby town of Camarones will be waiting for you before heading to your next hotel in the surroundings of Tayrona Park. After settling in, you will go for a walk around the area to look for new species.

TAYRONA PARK – EL DORADO RESERVE
Early in the morning, you will leave for another birding session during which you will try to see the lance-tailed manakin or the white-bearded manakin or the black-crowned antsrike. The blue-billed curassow is only observable between April and June. After a typical lunch in the area, you will go to El Dorado Reserve at 1900m above sea level from where you will stay.

CUCHILLA DE SAN LORENZO
This morning, you will go to the Cuchilla de San Lorenzo, at 2,650m above sea level, one of the best places to see endemic species, including the White-tailed Starfrontlet, the Rusty-headed Spinetail, the Band-tailed Guan, the Groove-billed Toucanet, the Strong-billed Woodcreeper, the White-lored Warbler and many others. Return to the reserve at the end of the afternoon.

EL DORADO RESERVE - MINCA
Early this morning, you will leave for the village of Minca, where you will stay. Along the way, you will be able to observe other species such as the Golden-winged Sparrow, the Crested Bobwhite, Yellow-throated Vireo, and the Crimson-backed Tanager, among many others.

WATCHING OF COASTAL SPECIES
Today, you will return to Santa Marta and drive to Cartagena with stops along the way to observe the species living in the areas of lagoons and mangroves such as the Northern Screamer, Chesnut-winged Chachalaca, and the Sapphire-bellied Hummingbird.
