Day 1: Welcome to the Jungle

(Nature, Wildlife, Nature Reserve)

Start your journey with us today by arriving to Leticia airport via Bogota where you will meet your local guide and be taken for lunch in the city.

From here you will make your way towards the mighty Amazon River where a boat will be waiting to take you into the Calanoa Nature Reserve. You can expect a delicious squeezed juice when you arrive to the Calanoa Lodge as the staff welcomes you and gets you settled into your rooms. There will be a brief discussion and explanation of the conservation efforts as will as some shared knowledge about the reserve itself. After you will be given some free time to relax and get acquainted with the surrounding area and its marvellous landscape before dinner. If you choose, there will be a night walk after dinner where your guides will introduce you to the abundant nocturnal species of the forest including many insects and animals.

(All meals included)

Day 2: Meet the Mocagua Tribe

(Indigenous, Canoe, Waterfalls)

Kickoff this fascinating excursion with breakfast and a warm welcome by one of the most notable Amazon communities the Mocagua. With the help of your local guide you will have the chance to better understand the way of life and traditional rituals this community has and really witness their connection with Mother Nature. Much different than the daily grind of modern society this indigenous tribe really radiates their unique spiritual togetherness with the jungle. After we will return to the lodge for lunch before we set off to the Calanoa Reserve by hiking through some amazing vegetation witnessing secret plants used for healing purposes and possibly a few rare species of wildlife like armadillos, monkey and heaps of parrots.

Once we reach the edge of the Calanoa Reserve near Amayacu Park we will hop in canoes and paddle through the Matamata waterfall. This all depends on the water levels, so we may have to return by foot. End the day with dinner and an overnight at the lodge.

(All meals included)

Day 3: Choose Your Own Jungle Adventure

(Pink Dolphins, Culture & Arts, Community)

Today begins with two exciting options;

  1. Wake up at dawn to have a chance to watch and hear the beautiful sounds of the morning birdlife with your guide. Enjoy breakfast at the lodge before you depart to a local community the Macedonia’s who are known for their artisan objects since a good majority of the people are wood carvers. They use the redwood trees to create “blood sticks” as well as baskets with jewelry, seeds and feathers. Afterwards you can return to the lodge for lunch before departing to the island of Mocagua famous for its inland lake and abundant wildlife. Here you will visit the Peruvian side which consists of the Amazons natural canals filled with pink dolphins who come to breed their young. Finally you will return to the lodge for some down time with the opportunity to prepare a fanstastic local recipe of fish wrapped in leaves, seasoned with an array of local peppers harvested from the region. Here you will spend the night again at the lodge.

  1. Start your day with a 1.5hr trip along the river to visit Puerto Narino known for its gorgeous Lakes of Tarapoto. Enjoy some relaxing time while you bathe in these waters before returning to Puerto Narino for lunch. This local village is touted as the most ecological village in all of Colombia as you will not find any motor vehicle or modern technology here. Everything is done by hand or foot which gives this community a really charming feel. Again you will return to the lodge for dinner and a good nights rest.

(All meals included)

Day 4: Meet the Shaman

(Bird Watching, Healer, Medicinal)

Your final day will start with breakfast at the lodge along with some bird watching with your local guide. Here you will have the chance to meet one of the local shaman, a traditional healer who will give you a brief lesson on the history and science of medicinal plant-life that grows in the area. After you will return to the lodge to get ready for your flight back to Bogota. This final days schedule could vary depending on flight times for each individual.
