Cabo de la Vela is a fishing village in the Guajira Peninsula, a desert territory largely inhabited by the indigenous Wayúu people. Called by the locals as Jepirra, this area in the northern tip of Colombia was believed to be a gate to the afterlife, where the souls of all the deceased travel to rest with the ancestors. Nowadays, Cabo is a hotbed of ecotourism especially during Easter and the months of December and January.
