Step back in time as you stroll through the colonial streets of the UNESCO World Heritage-Listed Santa Cruz de Mompox. Founded in 1540, this quaint sleepy town is known for its impressive architecture, imposing churches, and interesting stories from the Spanish colonization era.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Day 1 - Santa Marta / El Banco / Santa Cruz de Mompox

Get cozy on your tour vehicle as it's going to be approximately 5-hour ride to from your hotel in Santa Marta. Enjoy a delicious authentic lunch at El Banco, then visit “Fundación de Danza", where you'll learn about the history of la Cumbia,  one of the most iconic traditional dances of the region You'll also have an amazing time witnessing an excellent performance of la Cumbia dancers by the Magdalena River as the sun sets on the horizon.

Continue your ride for 2 more hours until you reach your hotel in the colonial town of Mompox. Upon checking in, you may spend the rest of the evening at your leisure.


Day 2 - Santa Cruz de Mompox / Magdalena River Cruise

Today, step back in time as you go around and learn about the heritage of Santa Cruz de Mompox. You'll visit the museum, admire large colonial houses and imposing churches and squares, and stroll around streets built during the Spanish era. Then, enjoy a gourmet lunch prepared by the talented chef of Restaurante Ambrosia. In the afternoon, you'll board a traditional boat called chalupas and discover the channels and swamps that form the delta of the Magdalena River.

Return to your Santa Cruz de Mompox hotel in the afternoon.


Day 3 - Santa Cruz de Mompox / Ciénaga de Pijiño

Spend the over half a day at Santa Cruz de Mompox at your leisure. During your free time, you may explore this sleepy town and stroll through its beautiful streets, bustling markets, and stunning churches.Then, at around 4 in the afternoon, you will venture to Ciénaga de Pijiño, a lake characterized by its beautiful waters. This is also a popular spot for bird watching, as large numbers of exotic and migratory birds can be observed in this area.


Day 4: Santa Cruz de Mompox / Santa Marta

Spend three wonderful hours of today discovering the traditional artisan crafts in Mompox. Witness the special technique and skills of the locals in forging goldsmiths works called filigrana (filigree). Then, observe the process and try your hands at making Queso de Capa, a very typical product from the region. 

After lunch, hop back on the car and return to Santa Marta.
