Day 1:Depart Medellin for the Jungle
This morning meet our team this morning at the office at 5:30 a.m. in Medellin. From here we will depart to Pailania by public bus which will take approximately 2.5 hours. Continue across the plateau of Rio Negro to reach “El Alto Bonito”, which is the highest point on the Medellín/Bogotá highway.
Once we have arrived in Pailaina, hop into a private 4×4 to reach the trailhead. The next phase today will be to trek for about 5 hours from El Retiro and finish the first day in La Vereda el Porvenir (7 hours) with multiple swimming breaks at natural pools along the way. This evening, enjoy the hospitality of a Campesino family for the evening and stay overnight in beds. While with the Campesino, you will have the opportunity to soak up this cultural experience and hospitality by eating a traditional, home-cooked meal typical of the region.
Day 2: Rivers and Trekking
After a delicious breakfast this morning we will depart for what will be roughly a 5-hour hike to ” Rio Verde de los Henados”. Your trek will be entirely through the most pristine part of the canyon soaking in incredible biodiversity and birds. Today, lunch won't be without a view “La Esperanza”.
Walk on an impressive crest let your guide show you the countless birds and plants species. Enjoy snacks with locals on a remote farm and hike to “Rio Verde de los Henaos”. Stay overnight in beds, in a Campesino house at “La Vereda La Playa”.
Day 3: Final Ascent and Return to Medellin
An early departure this morning is necessary as today will involve a lot of hiking! After breakfast, hike for 5 hours uphill to enjoy stunning views of the rainforests and mountains of the Rio Verde valley. Reach “Sonsón Páramo” at (2700 m high) and discover a high-altitude environment.
In the afternoon, arrive to the “Vereda Manzanare” and then drive to the colonial village of Sonsón. Drive for 2 hours 45 minutes to before returning to our offices in Medellin around 7pm (approximately and can vary).
