Guatape Day Tour

This charming multi-colored holiday town of Guatape is quickly becoming known for its kaleidoscopic presentation and offering visitors a glimpse at the “best view in the world.” Only a couple hours away from Medellin in the midst of the rolling green Colombian countryside lies a sprawling artificial lake built in the 1960s which now welcomes people from all over the world to one of Colombia's most iconic destinations.

While admiring the colorful explosion of painted houses displaying traditional bas relief depictions of animals, people, and different shapes you can experience what is perhaps Guatape's most enduring centerpiece, La Piedra del Penol otherwise known as Penol de Guatape, a monolithic stone that seems to touch the sky. It flaunts a breathtaking panoramic view over the cluster of tiny islands dotted with trees and houses which at first glance doesn’t seem real. The 740 stairs to reach the top is worth every step!

What to expect

Today your tour will depart and start from Masaya hotel, inMedellin at 7:15am. In addition to taking in the beautiful craftsmanship and artistry of the houses in Guatape today, you can expect incredible views, and lively ambiance that the town offers and scenic strolls by the lake and shops. Should you decide to give your feet a break you can also take a boat ride around the reservoir.

Later this afternoon we will depart back to Medellin to the original starting point where the tour ends.
