Tour to the Oldest Port of Trade in the Arabian Silk Road: Al-Aqir

Al Aqir, on the Persian Gulf Coast, is the single oldest structural remnant in Arabia for the silk road between China, Iraq and Mesopotamia, and the Arabian Deserts overland. An easy day tour from Dammam, the trip is an excellent stopover for history lovers or people on business trips.

The port was active in about 1000 BC, and echos the trade of today that remains vital for the world's industry and productivity.

The tour starts from Dammam and can pick you up at any location in the city, after breakfast.

We drive today about 1 hour to the old port of Al Aqeer, heading along the coast of Al Khobar and the Persian Gulf seacoast where we can thoroughly visualize and realize the old and modern contrast of international trade in this area, the land bridge to Bahrain and history of Qatar, Saudi, and Bahrain, and the ancient history of trade in the Gulf along the silk roads all the way to the modern flow of oil that powers the engines of the world.

The port according to the university nearby oversaw the march and sailoff of "conquests of the Islamic army legions that conquered places in India, Persia and stretching to the outskirts of the Chinese empire, as such it was also one of oldest trade routes and commercial centers associated with Al-Mashqar and Hajr markets." We take in also some of the sites and culture of Al-Ahsa region in Saudi as well as Dammam and Al-Khobar on today's trip.
