Mt. Anjouan and Volcanic Lake Day Tour from Anjouan (With Local Lobster Lunch and Dining!)

From here we spend a day staging an incursion deep into the nature of the island and through the forest and volcano at the center of Anjouan, which is replete with the odors of perfumes and spices (and beautiful black sand draped with green) of the isle and seashore, exploring with a veteran local guide in the archipelago, looking for live rare species in the evergreen slopes, and will also stop for a delicious and unbeatable local lobster lunch and Comorian picnic. We head to the volcanic lake up on Mt Anj for a great break and view of the natural environment on Anjouan.

TOUR ITINERARY:

We will start at any hotel of your choice in the island, and head to the trailhead, where we will spend half a day hiking leisurely in the forest and volcano slopes and around to the lake (about 4 hours total trekking.) It can take the whole day for the roundtrip circuit through the forest and to the lake and lunch and leisurely beach, so bring as much water as you may need for the day and any snacks. 

A lot of totally endemic plants and birds, all rare by their very essence of evolving on a remote detached island, live within the forest. We will try to spot them in the woods and slopes and lakeside today as we go.

*Please note a moderate to high level of physical fitness is required to do the trek. It is also perfectly acceptable as an alternative to do a beach and forest nature hike today rather than go very far to the lake, as an alternate.
