Itinerary
Day 1 - Isalo - Beronono
Meet and greet your driver at the designated pick-up point before embarking on a drive off-road through to Beronono, a small village where you will come together with your local guide and porter team. Overnight in a bivouac at the edge of the Makay River.
Day 2 to 4 - Beronono - Makay South
Start your fascinating and exhilarating journey to the Makay Massif. Regarded as a true sanctuary for a number of extremely rare and uncommon species of flora and fauna, the Makay is not well-known and left unexplored. Hike your way through gorges, canyons, and rivers in the Southern part of the Makay. You will also visit the Mahatiny Cave to search for the notable ancient drawings and get an insight into Madagascar's history. Set up a bivouac at the base of well-preserved cliffs, where you will spend the night.
Day 5 to 10 - Makay South - Makay North
Continue traveling through Makay North to learn more about the diverse flora and fauna that can be found in Southwestern Madagascar as you pass by caves, canyons, gorges, ridges, rivers, and forests. Appreciate the beauty of nature and enjoy the beautiful vistas of the Sakamaly River and the canyons that cut into the massif while getting up close to lemurs, crocodiles, and other wildlife. Despite the walk's ease, the surroundings might be unfriendly due to the heat, the soft sand, the bararata (spicy reeds), the karibo (brambles), and the water that requires balance and agility. Spend the night in a bivouac.
Day 11 - Makay - Miandrivazo
Depart from the campsite early in the morning and hike through the Makay Massif to reach Miandrivazo via Route Nationale 34. Upon arrival in Miandrivazo, enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure.
Day 12 - Miandrivazo
Check out from the hotel after breakfast. With the help of your guide, transfer to Miandrivazo Airport for your journey back home.
