Travel to the Southwest of Madagascar, hike through the Makay Massif, and experience Makay South at its best. Discover Madagascar's breathtaking natural beauty, which includes several gorges, rivers, forests, and savannas, as you witness the landscape change every hundred meters. You will also get to see numerous endemic flora and fauna up close and interact with the local community. A paramount destination for trekkers and adventurers!


Itinerary

Day 1 - Morondava

Arrive at Morondava Airport. Your local guide will meet you at the airport and take you to the hotel. Take time to freshen up and enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure.

Day 2 - Morondava - Ankazomanga

Depart from Morondava after an early breakfast and travel off-road till you reach Mandabe. Stop by the small charming village of Ambararatanaomby, where you will meet your local guide and porters who will assist with all of the luggage. Then, start your journey towards the undiscovered Makay Massif. Camp out in the wilderness for the night.

Day 3 - Ankazomanga - Anosilahy

Start your trek inside the Makay Massif after packing, then descend down the Mazaindrano flow. Afterwards, ascend the summit to admire the breathtaking panorama, see the endemic palm forest of Malay in an aquatic environment, situated between hills in the form of a human brain. Camp out for the night.

Day 4 - Anosilahy Lake - Saririaky Lake

Take a tour by pirogue on Saririaky Lake as you approach the halfway point of Makay's Southern section. To get a perspective of the lakes, use a rope to climb a hill. After that, proceed around Anosilahy Lake to the Makay River's shore. Camp out for the night.

Day 5 - Makay River - Menapanda

Continue your journey across a level field through a dry forest without leaving the massif. Before proceeding to the Menapanda River, pass through the quaint village of Morafeno and stop at a cave to learn about the prehistoric paintings and drawings. Camp out for the night.

Day 6 - Menapanda - Andranomanitsy

Enjoy a day trip to the paradise hotspot that follows the Andranomanitsy tributary, and take in the numerous scenic panoramas that merge the lush forests and the substantial sandstone hills at the foot of the Vohibe Makay, one of Makay's top attractions. 

Day 7 - Menapanda - Tsivoko

Take another trail along the Menapanda River to reach the village of Tsivoko. Once you arrive, set up camp close to the village and then go to the medical clinic and school. You will then share a last dinner with your local guide and porters before meeting the driver and board on the vehicle. Camp out for the night.

Day 8 - Tsivoko - Sakeny

Drive through the lovely villages of Tanamary and Mandronarivo to reach the North from the village of Tsivoko. Along the way, take a short break for lunch, then continue as far as you can to set up a tent. Camp out at the edge of another river for the night.

Day 9 - Sakeny - Malaimbandy - Morondava

Depart from the camp and journey back to Morondava via Malaimbandy, where the off-road portion of the trip comes to an end. From there, continue on a paved road until the famous Baobab Avenue, where you will wait for the mesmerizing sunset. Upon arrival in Morondava, check in and enjoy the rest of the night at your own leisure.

Day 10 - Morondava

Check out from the hotel after breakfast. With the help of your guide, transfer to Morondava Airport for your journey back home.
