A little more about Lokobe NP:
The island of Nosy being a volcanic region, it is not surprising that its vegetation is fertile, especially Lokobe NP. The park can be reached by canoe, which takes 45 minutes. On arrival we can notice a disorderly accumulation of rocks that make the entrance to the park impressive.
Lokobe Park is divided into 3 circuits, namely:
- Kindro: This circuit is made up of Ampasindava and Nosy Be loops. The flora is very dense, you can meet lemurs and reptiles. It takes on average 1h30 of walking to cover the 2.13 km.
- Mitsinjo: In this circuit, you will indulge in a 1km long staircase starting from the entrance of the park to the summit of Mitsinjo which culminates in the 432 meters of altitude. It takes about 2 hours to complete the route.
- Ramy: This 2.25 km circuit lasts about 3 hours. During the walk, you will discover several beaches.
The Lokobe nature reserve is a real paradise on earth and is home to 376 animal species including 3 species of insectivores, 5 species of rodents, 16 species of chiroptera, 4 species of carnivores, 11 species of primates, 1 species of ungulates, 103 species of birds, 84 species of reptiles , 34 species of amphibians and 112 species of rhopalocera. In total, we can meet 17 birds only visible in Madagascar such as the Madagascar Owl known or the Madagascan Kingfisher.
The top 3 essential flora to discover:
- The Tontôrogno or Gluta turtur, a member of the mango tree family that grows everywhere, particularly in Antsaravy. Its particularity is that it is in great demand by professional sculptors.
- Then we have the Ramy or Canarium madagascariensis which is well known for its fragrance.
- On the ridges of Lokobe, touching the Uapaca ambanjensis or Agnabovahatra and its aerial roots is a privilege. You will be even more moved if you visit it in March during which it bears fruit.
