Located just over 35 miles northeast of Mali's capital, Bamako, is the town and urban commune of Koulikoro. It is situated on the edge of the Niger River and the terminus of the Dakar-Niger Railway. On this tour, learn more about the rich culture and history of this town which serves as a center of transportation then and now.

What to Expect

Start the day at the mountain of Nianankoulou, Koulikoro's landmark, and known as the Nianan sacrifice stones. The caves of the mountain are also said to be where the 13th-century ruler and 'feticheur' Soumangourou Kanté disappeared after being defeated and shot. Continue to Niamè Fara or the Squatted Camel rock formation, a mystical place that's even older than the village it's located in. Just nearby is the Faramissiri Caves which houses a sacred mosque visited by pilgrims annually. After this, you will also swing by other sites such as Comanv, Fakol Fan, and more, before ending the day lazing at the pool of Hotel Nanagaleni.
