While Lahore’s recorded history dates back about a thousand years, the city of Lahore came of age around the time of Mahmud Ghaznavi, and started to feature on the political maps of the South Asian subcontinent. This was also the time when the Lahore Fort first came into existence, along with the walled city. A few centuries later, Lahore became one of the most important cities of the Indian subcontinent under the Mughals.
In the 16th century, under Emperor Akbar, it even became the capital of the Mughal Empire for a short period. To the Sikhs, Lahore became the city of Guru Arjan. It was the capital of the magnificent Sikh Empire.
Under the British, Lahore became a powerful symbol of the colonial regime. It was the Raj’s educational and economic center. Today, Lahore is the provincial capital of the biggest province of Pakistan, the Punjab.
Day 1: Arrival in Lahore, Pakistan
Morning:
Receiving at Lahore International Airport / Railway station and drive to your hotel in the town. After breakfast, free
time to relax till afternoon.
02:00 p.m. Pickup and drive to restaurant for lunch.
03:30 p.m. Pickup from restaurant and drive to the old town of Lahore, the walled city. Visit the different gates inside the walled city and culminate at Delhi Gate, while passing through the Mughal era mosque of Wazir Khan. Pickup from Delhi Gate and drive to Anarkali Food Street for your dinner. Before having your dinner, you can walk in the food street and buy some traditional garments, khussa shoes or souvenirs of Lahore.
Drop off at your hotel.
Meals: breakfast
08h30: After
breakfast, pickup from the hotel and drive to the premium attraction of Lahore, the Lahore Fort, Badshahi Mosque, Minare Pakistan and Sikh Gurudwara Dera Sahib (all in one enclave). A guided tour of the Lahore fort, Sheesh Mahal, Royal Hammam, Deewan-e-Aam and Deewan-e-Khas etc. will be arranged. The visit may take 4-5 hours. Your guide will brief you about the history of the fort and the ups and downs faced by Lahore in the history.
After the visit, drive to a restaurant for lunch.
After lunch, drive to the tomb of Jahangir (4th Mughal Emperor). The tomb is situated within a big lush green
park.
After the visit, if time permits, also visit the Shalamar Gardens.
After the visit, drive to a restaurant for dinner. After dinner, back to hotel for night stay.
Day 3: Wagah border and return back
07h30 a.m.
After early breakfast, drive to Wagah border with India to witness the impressive flag hoisting ceremony. After
the visit, drive to your hotel and drop off.
