Vohemar to Antalaha: The Adventure Axis and Vanilla Voyage of SAVA

This is our favorite part of Madagascar (Staff Favorite!) and takes in the road less traveled, but greener and grander!

Day 1: Tana-Sambava

Arrival in sambava. According to your arrival time, the guide will take the time to brief you on the progress of your trip, night and breakfast at the hotel. We usually stay at Orchid or Carrefour and take a spin around town and enjoy the coastline as well.

Day 2: Sambava-Andapa 108km

we leave sambava, for the rice basin of andapa. the 95km can be easily traveled thanks to a beautiful mountain road. Frequent stops to visit the Manantenina interpretation center lie at the entrance to the Marojejy National Park, and many viewpoints. In the afternoon, we take strolls in private reserves at the gates of the city of Andapa, the Antanetiambo Reserve (small forest which shelters beautiful biodiversity) the Beradaka private park (very beautiful landscapes crisscrossed by streams where the giant frog (Beradaka) flourishes at night, and the other landscapes of the center of lots of Madagascar's SAVA vanilla, Andapa.

Day 3: Andapa-Marojejy 27km

The Marojejy National Park and its 55,500 ha is a real paradise for nature lovers. Many animal and plant species are endemic there. Each route chosen is that of optimum opportunities for discovery of its wild residents. Rare plants such as those of the family Myrsinaceae can also be observed. During our walk, we will also be able to see the Madagascar Serpent-eating bird , as well as other species of birds. To complete the day we will go to the famous Humbert waterfall. Day 4: Marojejy- Vohemar 122km

The singular stunning beauty of the Marojejy park never ceases to seduce visitors. The silky proprithèque, or simpona, or even the silky sifaka can be sighted here and is one of the ten species of lemurs that share the territory! Plenty of furry friends abound in the reserve, and throughout the hike you'll be immersed in the heart of a kaleidoscopic and particularly diverse bout of nature. Depending on the physical capacity of each participant, we will climb Mount Marojejy (which is a serious hike but most people of moderate to high fitness can do it. There is no obligation to summit the mountain in order to enjoy the park however. If we do not have the time we will leave the park to go directly to Vohemar. Night and breakfast at the hotel

Day 5: Vohemar-Anjoaty park and Lac Vert 5km

The town of iharana (the Malagasy name of vohemar) is located in a beautiful bay in northern SAVA. It is a town rich in history and legends that the visit allows us to discover in every detail. We will make a detour to Anjoaty park whose name comes from the tribe that lives there, the Sakalava anjoaty. Then we will go to the Green lake or the Andranotsara lake. For the inhabitants of the region, the green color of the water fuels the folklore and manufactured for years the myths related to it. Today Vohemar is a bustling trading town in vanilla as well.

Day 6: Coconut Farm of Soavoanio Sambava 228km

In the collective imagination, Sambava is associated with vanilla or even cocoa. However, it has an unknown wealth. During this day, we will go to the coconut grove soavoanio, one of the largest in the world. We walk the 4800ha of plantations to learn a little more about this exotic tree where nothing is lost and all are transformed. We will continue towards Antalaha, for the Ambohimanitra domain where vanilla is available in all flavors. to end this day in beauty, we will cross the Macolline botanical path of Antalaha. Night and breakfast at the hotel

Day 7: Antalaha 70km

Visit the small but pleasant town of Antalaha, its artisanal dhow shipyards, and the vanilla processing facilities of the finest vanilla on earth, replete with the friendliest people in all of Madagascar. We stay at the beautiful Ocean Momo or the central Hazivola Hotel.

Day 8: Antalaha-Sambava 70km

Transfer to the airport according to the flight schedule from Antalaha all the way to Sambava
