Comoros Island Tour | Moheli

Moheli Island Culture and Cuisine: History, Towns and Best Beaches and Bites | Day Tour from Fomboni

We start up the day with a pickup at your chosen hotel anywhere in Moheli Island and briefing by our staff, after breakfast, and head around the circle road of the island to take in the towns, mosques, markets, history, and the BEST food and favorite secluded beach spots to make the most of your time on a trip or excursion. ---- and you don't have to drive!

From here we spend the first earliest part of the day sweeping through the mosques and marketplaces and mud and metal huts of Fomboni and Nioumachoua, and combing the haunts and history of the original inhabitants of the Comoran archipelago, who brushed the fame and fortunes of the Portugese traders and Magellan all the way to Captain Cook and the Libertalia Pirates. We see the tiny sparkling islets of Nyumashiwa off the southern coast, and try all of the tastes of town at the market and head to the oldest church at Miringoni, away further in Moheli. We finish with a lovely time on a secluded beach to relax and relish the waves of the remotest part of the Indian Ocean.

TOUR ITINERARY:

We will start at any hotel of your choice in the island, and head to the Fomboni mosque and markets first, and around to the other villages and towns of the island of Moheli We will taste some snacks and spices/flavors that are famed and endemic (and historic) in Comoros too, and then hit the ring road to circle the island's best beaches while gazing out at the pristine islet and marine reserve offshore. It can take the whole day for the roundtrip circuit through the island to the stretches where we can enjoy swimming and serenity, so bring as much water as you may need for the day and any comfort snacks.

A lot of totally endemic plants and birds, all rare by their very essence of evolving on a remote detached island, live within the marine buffer zones and some around the rock outcroppings lining the coast. We will try to spot them in the nature and remote fringe reefs today as we go.
