Known to be the wettest of all the Cirques, Salazie is rich with Creole tradition and is breathtaking with numerous of waterfalls cascading down its sides.
Cirque de Salazie is a perfect getaway from the city. The Cirque is extremely lush and green packed with vegetation.Today we will head north leaving early in the morning, around 7 am, towards La Possession. We will continue our drive arriving at the heart of the island, Cirque de Salazie. You will soon notice its magnificent waterfall, Le Voile de la Mariee (The Bridal Veil), the Village of Hellbourg, and the village of Grand Ilet.
Today will include:
La Route des Tamarins: A beautiful stretch of highway that overlooks most of the West Coast and its coral reef.
Route du Littoral (The Coastal Road): A short stretch of highway that is at the foot of the gigantic cliffs. The entire view is sure to take your breath away.
La Riviere du Mat: Known for its white water rafting, the river is said to be the gateway to the Cirque de Salazie.
Le Voile de la Marlee: The largest waterfall on Salazie.
Hellbourg: A Creole Village is traditional and known for its Creole architecture as well as its thermal baths.
Grand Ilet: Also called Saint Martin is where we will enjoy lunch today.
Saint Suzanne: Known to be one of the oldest inhabited places on the island, here you'll have a chance to see the famous lighthouse towering above the coastline.
Saint Denis: Although it is known for its traffic jams, it is the capital city of Reunion.
Saint Paul: Saint Paul was the first official village on the island and a trading post of the East India Company. It is situated in a beautiful bay with black sand, that can sometimes be extremely hot thanks to the sun!
The exact order of the sites listed that we will see does vary sometimes. We always offer time to allow for some flexibility should weather impede on our day at all. We take pride in traveling on lesser known roads than on the highways as this only enhances the experience for our guests and allows them to indulge further into the beauty of the Island in the "country".
Our day is set at a comfortable pace so we are able to thoroughly enjoy each spot and feel at peace rather than rushed.
You'll be transferred back to your accommodation around 6 pm this evening.
